This design will fit medium and large heads. That means it will fit most kids (10 & up), women and men. The charts remain the same for both sizes, the number of stitches will change slightly. You can use whatever fingering weight yarn you like that will get the gauge. I did use three different shades of one color family, you can do whatever you like. There is a chart included that you can color in prior to knitting ... or not :).

Needles: size 2/ 16 in circular, and size 2 double
pointed (dpn)
Gauge: 8.5 stitches to the inch, 9 rows to the inch … this is all relative to your tension, state of mind, political party, presence of children, and number of adult beverages consumed prior and during knitting session.
